I’ve watched precisely two minutes of this trailer at which point I stopped. Not because I didn’t like what I saw, entirely the opposite. I knew nothing of this film, except for the fact that some scenes were shot in Glasgow last year but after watching the glorious cinematography on display and what appears to be an ambitious sprawling plot I didn’t want to ruin any more surprises the film might have. It looks like a gigantic hybrid mix of Blade Runner, Tron, Apocalypto and The Bounty.
Directed by the Wachowski Bros, (The Matrix Trilogy), Cloud Atlas is based on the sci-fi novel of the same name written by David Mitchell and the official plot rattles along like so:
An epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution.
Heady stuff indeed, apparently the book deals with seven parallel worlds which is why there is so much varied plot detail on display here. Cloud Atlas is set for release in Ocotber and stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, James D’arcy, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent and Hugo Weaving.
