These remarkable photographs were taken by Nick Brandt which are featured in his amazing new book Across The Ravaged Land. They depict animals which have been completely petrified after coming into contact with a special lake in Tanzania.
Chemical compounds within the water of the lake turn the creatures almost to stone due to the water’s extremely high soda and salt content which basically preserves the animals once they come into contact with the water. Brandt explains that he found these creatures in their petrified form on the shores of the lake and simply placed them into various different positions. Giving them an extremely eerie feel of ‘living dead’ animals.
