So this is really fucking awkward.
In a month when high profile black actors and actresses rightly boycott the Oscars in protest over Hollywood’s lack of diversity, a white European actor has now been cast to play the role of one of the most famous Black American singers in history.
Apparently Joseph Fiennes has been cast as Michael Jackson in a British film about an alleged road trip he took with Marlon Brando, and Elizabeth Taylor directly after 9/11. The story goes the trio wanted to get out of New York so they hired a car and drove to Ohio.
Really? What’s next? Stephen Fry cast as Little Richard? Hugh Laurie to play Nat King Cole? The only way this production can redeem itself in the diversity stakes will be if Caitlyn Jenner plays Elizabeth Taylor and Morgan Freeman is cast as Brando.
Here’s the teaser trailer for the forthcoming movie A Monster Calls starring Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver and Felicity Jones and is based on the best selling children’s fantasy book of the same name written by Patrick Ness.
The plot of A Monster Calls rattles along like so: A young boy (Lewis MacDougall) escapes into a fantasy world of monsters and fairy tales as a way to cope with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and bullies at school.
Fans of the original book will be encouraged to learn that the movie was directed by Spanish film maker Juan Antonio Bayona whose previous credits include The Orphanage and The Impossible.
A Monster Calls is set for release on October 14th.

Here’s our first official look at the much-anticipated first-person action movie Hardcore from director Ilya Naishuller, who you may remember was the man responsible behind the outrageous first-person short film Bad Motherfucker, which became a viral sensation.
Now Naishuller is back with a full length movie which is being funded by Indiegogo. The plot for Hardcore rattles along like so:
You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry and congratulations, you’re now a cyborg. Five minutes later, your wife has been kidnapped and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky), he’s just a psychotic megalomaniac with telekinetic powers, and a never-ending army of mercenaries. You’re also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, Russia and everyone wants you dead. Everyone, except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He might be on your side. Good luck Henry. You’re very much likely to need it.
No word yet on when we can expect to see Hardcore in British cinemas.
Here’s a TV spot for the forthcoming series Westworld, based on the 1973 film of the same name which was written and directed by Michael Crichton, (Jurassic Park).
The original movie explored the theme of artificial intelligence with a Western themed amusement park populated by human-like androids for tourists to interact with. The TV series, written by Jonathan Nolan (Interstellar, The Dark Knight) and produced by JJ Abrams will carry over the same theme which made the movie so successful and stars Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden and Ed Harris who plays the Man In Black, a role made famous in the original movie by Yul Brynner.
Westworld will debut in 2016.
It may have been almost 15 years since the original Zoolander film gave us Blue Steel but the long awaited sequel is now upon us.
Above is the official teaser trailer for Zoolander 2, which sees the return of Ben Stiller as Derek Zoolander and, (even though he’s not in the teaser trailer), Owen Wilson as super model Hansel McDonald.
Zoolander 2 is scheduled for release on February 12th, 2016.
Ever since it was first announced I have been feverishly anticipating Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s The Revenant, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy and judging by the fascinating trailer above, which features some jaw dropping cinematography, my high expectations for this film may have been met.
The plot for The Revenant rattles along like so:
Deep in the uncharted American wilderness, hunter Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is severely injured and left for dead by a traitorous member of his team, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). With sheer will as his only weapon, Glass must navigate a hostile environment, a brutal winter, and warring Native American tribes in relentless quest to survive and exact vengeance on Fitzgerald.
Since this trailer was released last week reports have leaked online that the film is $40m over budget and although it’s release date is December 25th, Iñárritu is yet to film the end of the movie.
