As a huge fan of the 1996 Coen brother’s classic Fargo I was a little apprehensive when I heard there were plans to turn the movie into a TV mini series. As more details emerged about the project my fears were allayed following the Coen Brothers announcement that they themselves would act as executive producers on the 10 part series and that the plot would be entirely different from the film, focusing on another story of crime, deception and murder with new characters, albeit in the same bitterly cold location.
Today FX officially announced the cast with Billy Bob Thronton as a ruthless, manipulative man who crosses paths with a meek small town insurance salesman played by Martin Freeman and through a set of circumstances the pair embark on a path of destruction. Colin Hanks has also been confirmed as a single dad and Duluth police deputy and the always excellent Oliver Platt has signed on too.
No word yet on an expected broadcasting date.
