One of the most disappointing stories of last year was the official announcement that the CG movie adaptation of Eric Powell’s comic book series The Goon would never see the light of day, due to a lack of funding.
The film had a trailer back in July 2010, (see below), which had Paul Giamatti voicing the character of Franky and Clancy Brown as The Goon and director David Fincher was on-board as a producer but then the project hit the skids and up until recently it was assumed that the movie had been consigned to development hell. Now it seems there’s hope for the project with the announcement of a 30-day Kickstarter campaign to raise funds so that the movie can finally be released theatrically. It was also revealed on the Kickstarter page that The Goon has never been in production and that all the work up till now had been produced independently and paid for by the creative team consisting of Fincher, Powell, Blur Studios and Dark Horse Entertainment.
So if you’re a fan of The Goon or would love to see this character brought to life for the big screen then why not donate to their Kickstarter campaign and help the project raise $400,000 to finance a story reel.
If I were to win the lottery tomorrow I’d give them all the money they need.
Well this sucks!
Movie websites Slashfilm and IFC are reporting the sad story that CGI animated movie The Goon, (not the one doing the rounds right now starring Stifler), may not ever see the light of day. Apparantly the film, based on Eric Powell’s wonderfully dark and gothic graphic novels, which was to be produced by David Fincher, (Seven, The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), has slipped into a coma due to problems with the movie’s budget.
Actors Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown had been confirmed as the voice leads back in 2009 and various stills and even a lengthy teaser trailer, (see above), had been released, but it now it seems that cash has simply run out and The Goon might never be finished.

In yet another genius move by the marketing team behind the soon to be released Muppet movie here is yet another funny parody trailer, this time taking the mick out of David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Entitled The Pig With The Froggy Tattoo it has Kermit and the gang getting all moody and pensive with a a soundtrack and trailer similar to the one which sent fans of the book into a spin earlier this year.

A bootleg copy of this trailer has been doing the rounds recently on the Internet and we didn’t want to post it up on the main deck simply because there is nothing worse than watching a trailer filmed from some-one’s hidden ass-cam in a public place.
So here it is, in all it’s official, original glory. Our first look at David Fincher’s adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s book The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo starring Daniel Craig, Stellan Skarsgard, Christopher Plummer and the Warlock himself Julian Sands.
Not sure about the cover version of Led Zep and the trailer doesn’t even explain what the film is actually about, except for the fact that it looks cold, dark and mysterious, (pretty much like every other Fincher movie), but we’ll buy tickets…simply because the Warlock is in it.
