If you’ve just watched the trailer below for Techland and Deep Silver’s zombie survivor horror game Dead Island then you may be in need of strong cup of tea or coffee. This has to be one of the most creative and disturbing trailers for anything we’ve seen over the last few years. According to the developers the game is a mash-up of different styles, ranging from first-person shooter to RPG as well as having online multi-player co-op options. Seriously though back to the trailer, put your hands up if the room started to get a little smokey?
And here’s how it plays out in standard chronological order, thanks to the ever vigilant people over at IGN.
As you’ll see from the video above this is every bit a work of art as it is a game. Rockstar Games, who now have a pretty flawless reputation for producing the goods, in collaboration with developers Team Bondi have put together what looks like a multi-layered, beautifully textured, highly detailed open world game which has the look and feel of the late 1940s in Hollywood.Yes, cynics and critics will cry that it’s just GTA with brylcreem or Red Dead Redemption without the horses, but they’d be wrong.
The story itself centres around your character a rookie LAPD cop who starts off on the beat and works up to detective solving cases and arresting criminals along the way. A large part of the structure to this game relies heavily on picking up clues, solving mysterious deaths and working your way up the LAPD chain of command. Obviously there is a lot more to the game than that so we’ll let the nice man with the dulcet tones explain more in the video. La Noire is released on May 17th.
NB. For the solitary reader of this website, you may recall we thought the lead charcter of LA Noire was the CGI double of Mad Men’s Ken Cosgrove and we were right, for the actor Aaron Staton is indeed the lead in this fine looking game.
*bumps chests with the rest of the crew in excited celebration*
The marketing people behind promoting Epic Game’s new first person action/fantasy shooter Bulletstorm are very clever and exceptionally witty. As you will see from the video above instead of advertising their own game and showing you how amazing it’s graphics and gameplay are in an exclusive demo of their wares, they’ve instead put together a parody video which rips the utter piss out of their biggest rival Call Of Duty. No doubt this will cause a major war between gamers where instead of grenades, insults will be thrown concerning sexuality and the general welfare of their mothers.
You have to admire dedicated fanboys especially those that channel their passion into making tribute short films based on whatever geeky property they are currently obsessed with. The time, energy, money and attention to detail they commit to is admirable. The short film below is no exception made by Wayside Creations, (website still under construction), this fan film for the highly successful apocalyptic adventure RPG video game Fallout:New Vegas is nothing short of sublime, especially when you consider it was made for next to nothing. Enjoy…we did. (via VT Films)
Here’s just one image from a slideshow of many which you can view over at All Voices of a South Korean boot camp for ill disciplined children, many of whom have become addicted to playing video games. Apparently a crack squad of Korean military psychotherapists have discovered that by stripping children to the waist and have them rub snow onto their exposed flesh will in fact rid them of any further desire to play a games console. It’s science and you can’t argue with it.
Many of the kids who are forced to attend these camps by their parents openly confess that they’ve become obsessed with games and as one training instructor explained: “Nowadays, the children are selfish and really dependent to parents. They even become violent and disrespect the older. Moreover they easily quit whenever encountering problems. It can not be accepted in our country. For that reason, the parents would like to send their children to the military training course to help them to be better and win themselves”.
Here’s an idea, let’s just put this out there but how about a similar military boot camp for the work shy, lazy, reality television addicted parents? You know the ones who have quite clearly failed at bringing up their kids and are so idle they’d rather let the military take care of them? Just a thought.
