Avast! Red Band Teaser For The Gambler.

Here’s the red band teaser trailer for Mark Wahlberg’s latest movie The Gambler a remake of the 1975 cult classic movie of the same name which starred James Caan.

This version doesn’t deviate too much from the basic plot of the original with Wahlberg playing a literature professor with a chronic gambling habit who, during the course of an evening, ends up in debt and in a whole heap of trouble with some nasty, unsavoury types.

The Gambler is directed by Rupert Wyatt, (The Escapist, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes), and goes on general release on January 1st.

Avast! Red Band Trailer For Pain & Gain.

Here’s the sweary trailer for Michael Bay’s new movie Pain & Gain, starring Mark Wahlberg and The Rock.

It looks like Bay is trying really hard to do a Coen Brothers movie but with added strippers and explosions. The movie claims to be based on a true story. The reality of this claim is the real story is far more dark and disturbing than this laugh-fest caper would suggest and involved three men known as the Sun Gym Gang. You can read the whole sordid story HERE.

What’s That Smell? Just The Rock…Cooking.

This, unfortunately, isn’t a paparazzi snap of Hollywood action star The Rock relaxing in his backyard using his barbecue. It’s a publicity shot featuring Dwayne Johnson on the set of his latest film Pain & Gain.

Directed by Michael Bay the movie also stars Mark Wahlberg and is based on an 11 year-old newspaper article in the Miami New Times about two steriod abusing bodybuilders who had turned to crime and ended up involving themselves in an extortion ring and kidnapping plot which all ended rather messily.

Of course the movie is taking a black comedy route with Rob Corddry, (Hot Tub Time Machine, Cedar Rapids), and Ken Joeng, (The Hangover, Community), no doubt propping up the laughs department.

Avast! Trailer For Contraband.

We’re not the biggest fans of Mark Wahlberg, nothing about him in particular that irks us, it’s just that he pretty much acts the same in every movie he’s ever been in.

That said the trailer for Contraband does look good, if only for two reasons: 1 Giovanni Ribisi and 2. Ben Foster. Any movie and we mean any movie, with those two actors present in the cast is always worth a look.

Directed by Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur, (101 Reykjavík, Inhale), this is a Hollywood remake of a movie called Reykjavik-Rotterdam, (we’ve added the trailer below for comparison), which coincidentally enough Kormákur starred in, and tells the story of yet another gangster, Chris Farraday, who is dragged back into the underworld for one more final job, this time it’s running contraband. Of course nothing goes to plan and out pop the pew-pew-pews, threatening phone calls are made, explosions send people flying to the concrete and cars are aggressively rammed off the road.

Apart from all the generic stereotypes an action movie could have it still looks good and just how much hotter can Kate Beckinsale possibly get?

Contraband is set for general release in January.

Avast! Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Trailer.

What feels like a lifetime ago we abandoned our good vessel rowed ashore one evening and paid a very rare visit to a nearby picture house where we sheathed our cutlasses for two hours as we endured a celluloid car crash called Planet Of The Apes which starred Mark Wahlberg under the direction of Tim Burton.

The film was so monementally bad we didn’t even have the energy to go pillaging for at least a month later. Fast forward ten years, (has a decade really passed that quickly?) and 20th Century Fox have released their official trailer for Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes directed by Rupert Wyatt, who previously directed the brilliant Brian Cox movie The Escapist.

This movie also stars Coxy as well as Andy Serkis, James Franco and John Lithgow in what appears to be an effort to strip back the Apes franchise, wipe the board clean and start again with a more promising effort in the form of an origin story.

We’ll probably row ashore once more when Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is released in August.

Avast! The Fighter Trailer.

Boom, boom , boom, boom. Ding, ding, ding ding. Smack, smack, smack, smack. This trailer, for David O’ Russell’s new movie The Fighter certainly does have a certain rhythm to it. Starring Mawky Mawk and Christian Bale it tells the story of the early years of pro boxer ‘Irish’ Mickey Ward with a special cameo appearance, which we hope will get a nod from the Academy, by Bale’s eye mole.
