First off let’s us just say how refreshing it is to finally watch a trailer for an action film that doesn’t have a muscled out, juiced up, meat head as the main protagonist.

Ever since Memento and LA Confidential we’ve been big fans of Guy Pierce and it’s great to see him finally tackle the action genre. That being siad this film does look very similar to John Carpenter’s Escape From New York and by very similar we mean almost identical.

The plot for Lock-Out aka MS One: Maximum Security rattles around like so:

In 1997, when the US President crashes into Manhattan, now a giant max. security prison, a convicted bank robber is sent in for a rescue, in return for his freedom.

A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Half of the crew here are appalled at such a blatant plot rip-off while the other half are genuinely excited to see Guy Pierce pull off a Kurt Russell and Rudy from Misfits finally get the wider recognition he deserves. Let’s face it Joseph Gilgun was pissing in the wind as a suitable replacement for Robert Sheehan on the hit Channel Four Sci-Fi series so it’s good to see the boy get his chops into a role which could lead him to bigger things.
