Avast! Trailer For Norwegian Disaster Movie The Wave.

It was a critical hit at last year’s Fantastic Fest and Toronto International Film Festival and now it’s picking up stellar reviews, with some critics describing it as the best disaster movie for a generation.

The plot of Norwegian film The Wave rattles along like so:

The experienced geologist Kristian Eikfjord has accepted a job offer out of town. He is getting ready to move from the city of Geiranger with his family, when he and his colleagues measure small geological changes in the underground. Kristian gets worried and his worst nightmare is about to come true, when the alarm goes off and the disaster is inevitable. With less than 10 minutes to react, it becomes a race against time in order to save as many as possible including his own family.

No word on a UK release date.

News Media Ignore Story Of Heroic Lesbian Couple Who Saved 40 Lives.

By now you’re probably well versed with the horrors that happened in Norway last month, involving the barbaric actions of a single religious extremist nutcase who executed almost 80 innocent civilians, (we’re not even going to credit him with a name).

What’s interesting is that the main news media outlets are being accused of ignoring the story of a married lesbian couple and their heroic actions which saved the lives of 40 teenagers on that fateful day. Hedge and Toril Hansen reportedly came to the aid of those who ran into the lake from the island to avoid being shot, by jumping into a motor boat and fetching them out of the water and safely dumping them on the mainland. Website Talk About Equality has the full details which include the following testimony by the couple:

Hege Dalen and her spouse, Toril Hansen were near Utöyan having dinner on the opposite shore across from the ill-fated campsite, when they began to hear gunfire and screaming on the island.

“We were eating. Then shooting and then the awful screaming. We saw how the young people ran in panic into the lake,” says Dale to HS in an interview.

The couple immediately took action and pushed the boat into Lake Tyrifjorden.

Dalen and Hansen drove the boat to the island, picked up from the water victims in shock in, the young and wounded, and transported them to the opposite shore to the mainland. Between runs they saw that the bullets had hit the right side of the boat.

Since there were so many and not all fit at once aboard, they returned to the island four times.

They were able to rescue 40 young people from the clutches of the killer.

“We did not sleep last night at all. Today, we have been together and talked about the events,” Dalen said.

Usually the press, especially the tabloids, would be having a f@cking aneurysm over such a story, heroics, saved lives, under fire, disregard for their own safety. Talk About Equality has a fantatsic follw-up article about the apparent snub this story has received from major news outlets. What ever could the problem be?
