We’ve been trying to resist the urge of getting all excited in a schoolgirl fashion over the prospect of Ridley Scott’s forthcoming sci-fi epic movie Prometheus, but after watching the second official trailer above, our pigtails are now in a twist.
Loads more footage has been revealed from the movie in this latest trailer which premiered at Wondercon 2012 last week. From what we’ve seen so far it appears Scott is well and truly back on form with a glorious return to the genre which effectively launched his career.
The plot of Prometheus rattles along like so:
In the late 21st Century, a star map is discovered within the imagery of Aztec, Mesopotamian and Magdalenian culture. The crew of the spaceship Prometheus is sent on a scientific expedition to follow the map as part of a mission to find the origins of mankind. Exploring the advanced civilization of an extraterrestrial race, they soon discover a threat to humanity’s very existence.
Here it is, your first official look at Ridley Scott’s much anticipated new movie Prometheus.
A director who pretty much changed modern sci-fi films with Alien returns to the genre which made him famous with a film which was originally intended to be a direct sequel to the 1979 cult classic. Not very much is known about Prometheus except that it stars the always watchable Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and Guy Pierce and won’t precede any of the previously established characters or story lines from the Alien franchise.

The film will focus on a mythology within the Alien universe. Set in the late-21st century, Prometheus will explore the advanced civilization of an extraterrestrial race responsible for the origins of modern humans on Earth, as well as the background of the Alien creature which made its first appearance in the 1979 film.
So, crew of future science geeks in discovery of large alien humanoids shocker. Count us in.
