‘The happiest day of your life is about to become your worst nightmare.’
Eh, we think you’ll find that’s what most weddings are without all the screaming zombies. In fact this looks like just another ordinary wedding day in Paisley.
This of course is the trailer for the third film in the Spanish Rec franchise; Rec3 Genisis. We were fortunate to watch the very first Rec film, when it was released in 2007, which is a genuinely decent entry to the horror genre, but the sequel passed us by and now three looks to be taking on a whole new angle to the story, with the infected now out of the building and into the surrounding neighbourhood, all the while maintaining the shaky hand held POV element which the franchise is primarily based upon.
The plot rattles around like so:
Génesis encompasses the events of the first two films. The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight giving the film a completely new disturbing atmosphere. The infection has spread out of the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies. This third part of the saga also works as a key to reveal previously unknown information from the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future REC: Apocalypse, which will possibly tell the events occurring after the three films, presenting a viral deadly infection spread over unknown territory. The setting of the Génesis, according to the trailer, is set on a wedding where, possible, virus spreads out and starts infecting everyone.
So there’s to be a fourth and final installment of the Rec franchise, no doubt that will take place at the court house during the couple’s divorce case.
